Balance the books

Labour run Manchester City Council has had free rein over the finances of Manchester for long enough. Despite the fact that the Conservative led Government has given greater powers to local councils over income and spending they are playing politics with local jobs and front line services

Reduce the cost of politics

The annual grant for Councillors in Manchester is currently £18,000. This is £10,000 higher than in Salford, and £12,000 higher than Trafford. Conservative Councillors would call for a reduction of allowances helping to spend your money on local services

Weekly bin collections

Many areas of the city no have weekly bin collections. This is part of the Council playing politics with our local services. Your local Conservatives will fight to bring back weekly bin collections.

Improve street lighting

Switching to new forms of lighting could save Manchester Council up to three quarters of the city wide electricity bill; money that could be better spent on our local public services as well as providing a service that is safer and greener.

Cutting council tax and business rates

Last year Manchester Council decided to increase council tax by 3.7%. Manchester Conservatives are committed to cutting council tax and business rates in Manchester
